****** The Memphis Album was recorded live, 1 take each track, director analogue tape, in Memphis with the renowed Blues Brothers band of (the MGs of "Booker T & the MGs") Steve Cropper, Donald Duck Dunn, Steve Potts and Lester Snell and other notable Memphis musicians.
Guy's range, style and voice so impressed these legendary musicians that when he jokingly said they should tour with him in Australia, they took him up on it. In fact they were so impressed by Guy, that they spread the word and musicians and entrepreneurs were dropping by Ardent Studios just to look and listen to him record.
The album went almost immediately to 2P in a couple of months and is now at 3P (an extraordinary feat in the small populated country of Australia and in todays society, where too many people don't think they should pay for the music).
It is still riding high in Aussie Itunes, regularly, and it is normal for Guy to have The Memphis Album, Receive the Power, and the live CD The Memphis Tour all high on the Itunes charts.
As I am some 400plus reviews before I can add an album to Guy's selection here, I will take the opportunity to point out that there is available The Memphis TOUR, which is an album of the LIVE tour, recorded in Melbourne. A DVD is also available, and of course features the Blues Brothers / MGs band, and includes one of the best Green Onions by this band you will ever hear, and one of Guy's newer songs, "I Feel a Fire", heavy gospel/soul inspired song. This particular (5th) album also features songs not on The Memphis Album.
Also will take the opportunity to point out that should you wish to obtain MORE of Guy Sebastian's songs, he has been recording since around 1998, toured in the US and Asia with the gospel rock band, The Planetshakers, and won a substantial prize with his song "No More" in 2002/3 -all before the Idol competition.
****** An amazing album showcasing how Guy works very well with old Memphis tracks. This album set in stone his reputation as a soul artist and paved the way for the excellent albums that were released in the years to come
