** The past few years have been very interesting for followers of rap music, but there are records like "beerbongs & bentleys" that do not help in painting this picture. Post Malone can't sing to save himself, and he can barely rap, which makes stringing together a collection of decent rap songs without relying too much on your producers or featured artists to be an insurmountable task. The result is somewhat of a mixed bag of songs with nothing truly awful or great on display. Openly embracing his own lack of artistic integrity, Post doesn't set out to change the formula too much and the result is fairly expected. The reality is that he does not have an hour of worthwhile material to show here, with many unnecessary tracks particularly crowded in the first half. Although on their own they're nothing to rave about, "Psycho", "92 Explorer" and "Candy Paint" are the album's highlights. 2.5 |
